Bubble tea, tea houses, Asian bakeries and dessert shops in this group are usually walk-in, counter-order businesses with a menu board overhead listing sweetness and ice levels you can adjust when ordering. Standard bubble tea customization includes sugar level (0-100%), ice level, and a choice of toppings like boba pearls, pudding or jelly, usually at a small extra charge. Asian bakeries sell items individually with tongs and a tray, cafeteria-style, rather than pre-boxed, and pastries are typically less sweet than Western bakery items. Lines build up quickly after school and in the evening, especially near colleges. Most of these businesses accept cards and mobile pay and skew younger in clientele and atmosphere.

San Francisco is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and San Francisco follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

A wonderful dessert staple in San Francisco, especially when few dessert spots open too late into the evening! The atmosphere is super cute in the evenings but it can get quite busy. Despite all the takeout orders they were fulfilling and the full house, our server was super attentive to us, even snapping several photos for us of our table with different photo orientations. Top service π― and many thanks for letting us chit chat up until closing! The desserts as usual are excellent. Tonight we went with a couple favorites with the Coconut Pandan Crepe Cake and the Yuzu Cheesecake. Both have flavors that stand out and are true to the cake description! I love how refreshing they are and not too heavy despite the cream!

We had a great experience here! The desserts were delicious, the service was friendly, and everything came out surprisingly fast even tho the place was packed. The atmosphere was also comfortable and easy for conversation. We had: β’ Double Fromage Honey Yuze Cheesecake with Matcha Ice Cream β Very flavorful and unique. The citrusy Yuzu flavors paired perfectly with the matcha ice cream, and the Biscoff crumbles added a nice texture. We liked this creative twist on a classic cheesecake. β’ Coconut Pandan Crepe Cake β Extremely soft, light, and not overly sweet. Perfect for anyone who prefers milder desserts. Even with its subtle flavor, the coconut came through nicely, especially from the creamy coconut topping. Super delicious it was like eating a creamy cloud. β’ Chocolate Banoffee β Rich, indulgent, decadent and packed with flavor. The chocolate is bold balancing perfectly with the banana, caramel, and Oreo. A great choice for chocolate lovers or anyone craving an over-the-top dessert. They have a great variety of desserts, so thereβs something for every taste preference. We will definitely be coming back!

U: Dessert Story in San Francisco's Mission District is an absolute must-visit for dessert lovers! Tucked away on 16th Street near Castro, this spot elevates Asian-inspired sweets with a modern twistβthink Korean, Japanese, and Thai fusion treats like fluffy Japanese cheesecakes, pandan cakes, lychee cheesecake, colorful bingsoo, honey toast, and indulgent lava cakes. The ambiance feels like a fine dining experience in a cozy cafe setting, with indoor/outdoor seating perfect for lingering over shareable plates late into the night (they're open till 10 PM or later most days). The presentation is stunning, and flavors are spot-onβnot too sweet, with premium ingredients shining through every bite. We tried the Japanese-style cakes and some savory snacks, and everything was delicious and worth the $15-20 per dessert (taxes and tip included). Staff is super friendly, and it's a staple for SF foodies. Highly recommend for a special treat or date nightβpure bliss!

The kind of dessert that makes you pause mid-conversation. Light, almost airy in texture, with that vivid ube color that feels playful but not gimmicky. The cream on top adds just enough richness, while the crumble and that slightly savory cookie bring balance so it never tips into overly sweet. What stood out wasnβt just the flavor, but the contrastβsoft, crunchy, creamy, all in one bite. Even the sauces on the side felt intentional, not decorative. Itβs the kind of dish that shows restraint, which is rare in desserts trying this hard to impress. Not just Instagram-pretty. It actually delivers.

This was my first visit, and I honestly had higher expectations. The cheesecake was priced at nearly $16, but the portion size was noticeably smaller than expected. While I understand that desserts can be on the pricier side, the size-to-price ratio felt underwhelming. Unfortunately, the taste did not make up for it. The texture and flavor were fairly ordinary, and the cheesecake lacked the rich, creamy profile I was hoping for. For this price point, I expected something more refined or memorable, but the overall experience felt rather average. The presentation and environment were nice, and the dessert itself looked visually appealing. However, taste and value ultimately matter most. Based on this experience, both the quality and pricing fell short of expectations. I donβt see myself returning specifically for this itemβ¦π©
